We’ve all been there, finding those strange and unusual Christmas tree ornaments in friends’ houses, but what are they for? What are they from? The Current OC went on the search to find Ocean City High School’s most unusual Christmas tree ornaments.

When asked, Junior, Tara Rapattoni said that her strangest tree ornament was “An ornament that has milk and cookies falling in love with each other”. Meanwhile, junior Jake Cassidy said “my tree is mostly sports themed, so anything sports is really my tree” and Nina Bachich said that her weirdest ornament was “of a cat on an ataman, lying down”.

Christmas ornaments, both usual and non have existed for centuries, beginning, as believed, by a monk who went there to preach in the 7th and 8th century. He is assumed to have given the Germans the first fir tree, saying that is symbolized the Holy Trinity, which the Germans decorated with white candles. Later on in Latvia, the fir tree was decorated with roses to celebrate the holiday.

Tree ornaments, are as unique as a person’s likes or dislikes, leading to the idea of ‘themed’ Christmas trees. Some of these themes are food, Disney, and Religious symbols. Some families have dueling Christmas tree themes, leading to the battle between star trek and star wars trees. As a Christmas tree continues to change with the times, setting up tree ornaments remains to be one of the best family pass times during the holidays. From everyone here at Current OC, we hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday vacation.
